Anyone who knows me knows how much I love J.P. Patches and Gertrude.
The iconic clowns were a part of most Seattle kids mornings back in the 1960, 70s and 80s. I've painted J.P. plenty of times but it's been awhile. It was time.
I was fortunate to have spent some time with both J.P. (Chris Wedes) and Gertrude (Bob Newman) in the late 90s/Y2K era. Chris used to come into the place I worked for a drink occasionally. Also, my employer would pay JP and Gertrude to show up to Halloween festivities. Those were the days..
Even though Chris and Bob are gone, their magic remains.
I hope these paintings help them live on.
