It would have been my brother's 45th birthday today so I put away my current projects for the day and built this piece. Sort of art therapy, I suppose. I was in a great mood & at peace all day but still felt the need to create this mixed media piece.
It is an anatomical heart painted in acrylics on a hand built 7" pine wood piece. A nail pierces the heart as symbolic grief. A chain serves as hanging hardware and there are embellishments on the corners.
Of course I used a large nail, as grief is no small feat.
It's piercing, primal and it leaves a scar.
